Mandatory Documents for All Malawi eVisa Types
Upload the following documents when applying for a Malawi eVisa. These apply to all eVisa types.
1. Passport Bio Page Scan
- Upload the following documents when applying for a Malawi eVisa. These apply to all visa types.
- Scan your passport bio page in colour, with all edges visible.
- The scan must show your full name, photo, passport number, date of birth, nationality, and MRZ strip.
- All text must be legible.
- Your passport must remain valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date in Malawi.
2. Digital Applicant Photo
Upload a recent photo that reflects your current appearance.
The photo must:
- Be in colour with a plain, light background.
- Show your full face, centred and clearly visible.
- Be well-lit, free of shadows and glare.
- Keep your head uncovered, unless a head covering is worn for religious reasons.
Do not submit a cropped image from your passport.
3. Signed Cover Letter from Host in Malawi
Provide a signed letter from your host in Malawi. The letter must include:
- Host's full name and contact details
- Host's address in Malawi
- Purpose and duration of your visit
The letter must be signed and clearly legible.
Additional Documents by Visa Type
The documents below are required in addition to the mandatory documents listed above. They apply based on the type of eVisa you select.
Study eVisa
Travelling to Malawi for education? Submit:
- A letter from the educational institution in Malawi
- The letter must confirm your enrolment and the purpose of your stay.
Medical eVisa
Travelling for medical treatment? Submit:
- A reference letter from a hospital in Malawi
- The letter must confirm your appointment or treatment details
Tourism eVisa
Visiting Malawi for tourism? Submit any ONE of the following:
Option 1: Travel Agent-Signed Cover Letter
- A signed cover letter from a travel agent, OR
Option 2: Agent-Signed Accommodation Booking
- A confirmed accommodation booking signed by the agent
Family Visit eVisa
Visiting family or friends in Malawi? Submit any ONE of the following:
Option 1: Host’s Immigration Residence Permit
- A copy of the host's immigration residence permit, OR
Option 2: Host’s Passport Bio Page (Malawian)
- A copy of the host's passport, if they hold Malawian citizenship
Transit eVisa
Travelling through Malawi en route to another country? Submit any ONE of the following:
Option 1: Residence Permit for Next Destination
- A valid residence permit, OR
Option 2: Visa for Next Destination
- A visa for your next destination country
Business eVisa
Travelling for business? Submit any ONE of the following:
Option 1: Host’s Business Registration Certificate
- The host company's business registration certificate, OR
Option 2: Certificate of Incorporation in Malawi
- A certificate of incorporation in Malawi
Document Requirements for Minor Travellers
Applications submitted for minor travellers must meet the same requirements as those submitted by adult applicants. Additionally, they require an extra set of legible documents, including:
1. Passport bio-page Scans of the Minor’s Parents or Legal Guardian
- For applications filed on behalf of a minor, clear passport scans are required from both parents or the legal guardian.
- All details, including the MRZ code, must be fully legible and visible in the scan, with no edges cropped.
2. Minor’s Birth Certificate
- Upload a valid birth certificate for the minor.
- Minor’s name, date and place of birth, and parents’ details should be clearly visible.
3. Consent Form from Parent/Guardian
- A duly completed and signed consent form from the parent or legal guardian must be provided
- The form must clearly and legibly include all relevant details, including the minor’s full name, date of birth, and relationship to the parent or legal guardian.
4. Proof of Legal Guardianship (If Not Natural Parent)
- Upload a clear and valid document proving legal guardianship of the minor, if the guardian is not a natural parent.
- The document must clearly show details of the minor child and the legal guardian’s relationship to the minor.

Important Health Information
Yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if arriving from yellow fever endemic areas.
